Aneka and Josh chose The Key Venue for their wedding, a modern industrial space tucked between Robertson and McGregor with views of the Langeberg mountains.When we first spoke, they mentioned that they didn’t feel very comfortable in front of a camera. I hear this from most couples I work with, so our goal was simply to keep things relaxed and natural. They trusted the process completely, and they were absolutely brilliant to photograph.
They held their ceremony outside, but still undercover framed by the mountains and vineyards. The undercover area is perfect for our unpredictable Western Cape weather, and also protection from the harsh sun in summer.
If I can give one piece of advice to future couples, it is to make time to enjoy your canapé hour with your guests. The day goes by quickly, and getting to mingle with your family and friends is a huge part of the celebration.Aneka and Josh did exactly that. Their cocktail hour on the lawn was a lot of fun, featuring lawn games and something I hadn’t seen before: a golf putting green right into the vineyards. It was a great touch that got everyone interacting. Another original idea was the self service draught beer stand.
Because Aneke and Josh spent the first part of the afternoon chatting with their guests, we were able to wait for the best possible light for their couple portraits.As the sun went down, we headed into the fields for a quick session. By this point, any nerves about the camera were completely gone. They just enjoyed a quiet moment together as newlyweds.
From the moment Aneka and Josh made their grand entrance into the reception, the energy was unmatched. The room instantly came alive, and the party officially kicked off. There was no waiting around, right after speeches, everyone hit the dance floor and kept it packed all night long, making it an incredible, high-energy celebration to photograph.
