This has been an exciting year for my business, I have had a destination wedding every month for the last 5 months. Destination weddings are so exciting, I get to travel and experience different cultures, views, food, and people. What an honour to have someone fly me somewhere to shoot their special occasion. I love everything about travel, even the airports.
This year I photographed 2 weddings in Madeira, Portugal. A wedding in Angola, a wedding in Zimbabwe and this time round I was asked to do a Christening in Dubai. Unfortunately I can’t blog the Christening due to a privacy clause but I am happy to share the photographs I took as a “tourist” in this very exciting city of Dubai.
Dubai is quite a feat, building a city from absolutely nothing, a place where few people would travel to, but with the vision of their royal family, Dubai is now the shopping and business Mecca of the world. Its a city that never sleeps. Everything is HUGE and over the top. The city skyline is super impressive with the Burj Khalifa taking centre stage as the tallest skyscraper in the world.
As a photographer, I definitely preferred spending time in the Old Dubai. I loved the souks, the gold market, the abras ( water taxis), and the hustle and bustle of the people.
New Dubai I got to visit some of the most impressive places. Dubai Mall, I don’t think there is one brand that I could think of that is not there. They have everything, from an ice rink to a very impressive Aquarium as a major feature of their mall. I also got to visit the Waldorf Astoria, eat at the One and Only and visit people who live on the Palms and meet a friend for dinner at Madinat Jumeirah.
A big highlight was on my last night, I went with Jo-Ann and Mark on a desert safari. We were picked up from our hotels and driven to the desert. We had a very hair raising 4×4 trip through the dunes. Lots of screaming and sweaty palms. We got to watch the sunset which was pretty spectacular and we finished the ride at a bedouin camp where we were entertained by dancers and had a very spice but tasty meal.
Dubai was an experience I will never forget, and I would like to thank my clients for having me over and trusting me to capture a very special day in their lives!
