Nicole & Dorian

Kalk Bay, Anglican Trinity Church

I knew that Dorian and Nicole were going to be great in front of the camera. I had taken their engagement shoot photographs on the coldest day possible. It was 4 degrees. If they could be be so great in 4 degree weather, then I knew it was going to be magical, a  December wedding in Kalk Bay. I was so excited to shoot their wedding. They had described their theme as “A day at the market” . Its their favourite past time, so why not incorporate into their wedding. Have a read below for more details from Nicole herself. She looked breathtaking in her Robyn Roberts dress.

Venue : Kalk Bay Anglican Church

Thoughts from the Bride…

Our engagement shoot was taken on top of Table Mountain and the significance was not only because my husband and I have never been there together but also my family and I have so many memories of hiking there.
The significance of Kalk Bay has a lot more history for my husband. His Grandfather was a fisherman for many years. He’s Grandparents also got married in the exact church, which of course is a very sentimental memory for him as they have both passed.

We both came to almost a mutual decision that he has full control over the Ceremony from choosing the Ceremony music, flowers and any other orders regarding the Ceremony. I wouldn’t change anything…  on the other hand I had full control over the Reception…. All that went through my mind was traditions out the door and let the fun begin…

The exchange of traditions for fun and relaxation, resulted in no speeches, no table layout and numbering. Instead sit wherever you like and mingle with whom ever, we traded a traditional wedding cake for little cakes with many varieties of courses, we also had the reception directly after the ceremony so there was no lengthy interval between for the traditional garden photos, rather we took photos after everything died down at our own leisure…

My Husband and I love to go to Markets in and around Cape Town just to name a few, Blaauwklippen Market, Old Biscuit Mill, Oude Libertas Market, Audacia Market and Hout Bay Market. This of course inspired us to have a Marquee which was setup by a company called Apex Tents, the layout consisted of hay bale lounge seating alongside long market tables and benches wrapped with all the food stalls surrounding.

Our food stalls:

Earthfire pizza’s making the most delicious fresh and tasty thin base pizzas and serving from a foodtruck with coal pizza ovens. We found them at Blaauwklippen on a Saturday and Audacia on a Sunday both are in Stellenbosch.

Banting Bella’s what marvelous women, the most friendly and beautiful hostess, and the freshest and mouthwatering mezze platters. A summer time must have. We found them at Audacia Farm in Stellenbosch.

Escavar with all their staff members were just amazing, freshly prepared Steak and Prego Chicken Espada’s. It’s truly a feast a first sight and the smell just sealed the deal. We found them at Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.

Nuri Sushi always a great choice this stall was emptied out in an hour, always a great hit. They are in Cape Town in Parliament street, Cape Town.

I tried to create a child friendly wedding, gave the kids “fun boxes” containing an outlined canvas & paint, bubbles, sparklers, candy jewelry and various items with Ice Cream Ninjas for their entertainment. Also a Candy Buffet. Most of the adults were digging into their childhood memories, which was great to witness.

Advice, a beautiful and memorable wedding is truly in the little details, we designed and created our own Wedding Invitation and Ceremony Programs, and purchased the décor items over the 6 months that we were engaged. All other items we hired from Blooming Wonderful in Somerset and Quirky Parties in Milnerton.

Finally, the most important detail of the entire wedding, well to me at least, the wedding gown. The dress was inspired by a Designer called Berta. Located in Israel and all over the World in fact. I then researched and found a local designer called Robyn Roberts and I think the dress speaks for itself… with the help of a beautiful young lady out in Stellenbosch called Marni Bezuidenhout Make Up, who transformed me into my childhood dream of feeling like a Princess on my wedding day.

Jilda G is such a sweetheart, she makes us feel so comfortable and confident, we absolutely love her. And we would love to have her capture all our memories as long as possible.

Those were our inspirations and little details from our wedding.

Happy planning and remember, that your wedding is for you and your husband. No one else, so do what you want , and enjoy it as much as possible, it’s over in a blink of an eye.
